Onimusha Soul for PC browser and smartphone

Capcom has just announced Onimusha Soul, a new title of Onimusha series is coming on PC browser and smartphone. Release date for PC browser is June 28, 2012; and for smartphone will be on Autumn 2012 as well.

"Onimusha" is a series of samurai survival action game. Set in the Warring States period of Japan, the games require young swordsmen to advance while slaying enemies and solving mysteries. The first title was "Onimusha", a game for the PlayStation®2 that made its debut in 2001 and became the first million seller. Cumulative sales of all "Onimusha" titles were 7.9 million units at the end of December 2011, making this one of Capcom's most successful series of games. In recent years, the pachislo versions of "Onimusha 3" and "Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams" have also become big hits.

"Onimusha Soul" is a Sengoku simulation RPG based on the characters that appear in "Onimusha" series. Each player is a daimyo (feudal lord) of one of the warring states. Players use their powers to achieve the growth of their respective states and train military commanders as they fight with other players. "Onimusha Soul" also allows players to enjoy an original story.

The game is easy to play as it offers two unique advantages of browser games. There is no need to download or install the game data. In addition, the game features an unprecedented level of community and social elements. For example, players can be grouped separately based on Japan's 47 prefectures to enjoy a variety of cooperative game playing or fight players in other prefectures. Furthermore, the development engine uses "Unity 3D" to generate graphics that are far more attractive than the images of conventional browser games. Overall, "Onimusha Soul" was created to appeal to a broad spectrum of game players. Capcom plans to distribute this title for use on PCs and smartphones.

Capcom is targeting many opportunities in the rapidly expanding market for online games. The goal is to increase sales of online content (mobile, PC online and downloads for consumer games) to 30 billion yen in the fiscal year ending March 2015.
Capcom's "Monster Hunter Frontier Online", which is a PC online game, is performing consistently well. In addition, sales from downloadable contents in the Consumer Online Games business and from social and other games in the Mobile Contents business continue to grow.

By entering the browser game market, Capcom plans to continue to expand in the growing market for online games through the use of many methods to supply a diverse lineup of content.

Facebook games suffer activity decline?

The biggest 20 games operators on Facebook are combating a steady drop in daily user retention, an analyst group has said.

IHS Screen Digest claims that, during the first three quarters of 2011, the likes of Zynga and PopCap noticed a downward trend in user engagement.

User engagement is a specific metric that measures the ratio of daily active users versus monthly active users.

If the ratio is in decline, as the new data suggests, it means that those who log on to Facebook games every month are doing so less on a day-to-day basis.

High user engagement is seen as an important metric for social games groups because it means more players are exposed to other games advertised across game networks and, in theory, are more likely to pay for virtual items.

Angry Birds hits Facebook later in this year

- Developer Rovio also says driving and sport spin-offs possible once Rio tie-in is out; console versions still on-course -

Including not just the inevitable TV/movie spin-off, but a new 'collaborative' Facebook game, plus Angry Birds games in other genres like driving and sports.

On Facebook, "there will be completely new aspects to it that just haven't been experienced in any other platform," said studio boss Mikael Hed, who confirms that due to the social site's 'collaborative nature', "the pigs will have a more prominent role".

Meanwhile, Peter Vesterbacka, Rovio's 'might eagle' (business development) in the piece confirms that other spin-offs could be in the driving and sports genres, moving away from the puzzle-strategy 2D game's origins.

The studio is launching Angry Birds Rio in a matter of days, which is a tie-in with a Fox movie and swaps the villainous pigs for monkeys seen in the film.

"We're building an integrated entertainment franchise where merchandising, games, movies, TV, cartoons and comics all come together," said Vesterbacka.

He calls Rovio's strategy 'Disney 2.0'.

Hed added: "Look at how Disney got started. Steamboat Willie created Mickey Mouse, then they added more characters. You can see the same pattern today, but everything is happening much, much faster. Other brands used to build recognition over the course of decades. We've done it in one year."

The firm also says it will probably launch its next game - it's 53rd - next year.

In the meantime "we are building our infrastructure with Angry Birds," said Vesterbacka. "So we have the distribution, the marketing, everything in place, so that we can basically take any IP and drop it in. And we have the capability of producing the games on all the platforms - smartphone, consoles, PCs, Mac, online, Facebook - you name it. Then the TV, the movie side, it will happen when the time is right."

Fantasy Earth Zero Tower Defense

Here I'm gonna introduce a tower defense on Facebook, the "Fantasy Earth Zero Tower Defense".

Fantasy Earth Zero ファンタジーアース ゼロ is a MMO game developed by Fenix Soft, released in year 2006 by Square-Enix. However, few months after release, Square Enix canceled the game because of severe lack of demand. The publishing rights to the game were later bought by Gamepot, where the game has enjoyed much greater success as they dropped the subscription based element present when under Square Enix's PlayOnline service, and became a Free to Play game.

US players were finally able to get in on the action when Square Enix and Gamepot USA announced a partnership to deliver this free to play MMOG - Fantasy Earth Zero on January 12, 2010 and it was officially launched in US on May 18, 2010.

Early of January 2011, Gamepot USA announced the new Fantasy Earth Zero Tower Defence game for Facebook. Like common tower defense, you win the game by defending the castle, and killing all enemies charging the castle. You will lose if your castle's HP reduced to 0 by the enemies.

The graphic is quite nice with the good sound effect, and the animation is smooth and look real comparing to other Facebook's games. Some buildings in the can be used for summoning special units, but so far the units you can build are too little, just wondering they will be adding more in the future. I'm just started the game, and I don't have any friends playing it, so my friend list is 0. Add me if you look for companions of this game.
