RE: Darkside Chronicles "Alexia's Rebirth"

This archive is written in the
Darkside Chronicles Official Blog

This week, I’d like to talk a bit about Alfred Ashford’s daughter, Alexia.

Since we are revisiting Code: Veronica in the game, Alexia will of course be an indispensable part of the story. I’ve got to be careful not to give away too much while writing this blog!

Alexia was supposedly dead for 15 years but Claire and Steve see her on Rockfort Island. Why has Alexia, who was supposed to have died so long ago, suddenly appeared on this island?

Since the Chronicles series is a gun shooting game, we have to make sure that telling the story doesn’t interfere with the tempo of the game. To accomplish this, we’ve made a lot of additions and changes to the way the story is told. This chance meeting with Alexia on Rockfort Island happens much more directly in Darkside Chronicles than it does in the original game.

Claire and Steve follow the elusive figure of Alexia while searching the island. They hear her laughter, her footsteps, and the constant sound of her lullaby... but they never seem to be able to catch a clear look at the woman herself. The pair feels like they are chasing after a ghost.

No matter how quickly they pursue her, Alexia always seems to disappear just out of reach, leaving nothing but questions and riddles in her path. What is Alexia, and what is she planning to do?

The one thing that I can say here is this:

Alexia’s incarnation in the Darkside Chronicles is burning hot, and she will leave you wanting more!

PSN To Offer Comics for PSP (Well, Manga)

Sony have announced today that, later this year, the Japanese PlayStation Store will begin offering comics, which can be downloaded by PSP owners.

There's no word yet on a firm release date, or a price, or on which comics/manga will lead the charge, just a brief mention that they'll be compatible with all models of the PSP, and that users will be able to download them from the PlayStation Store.

While this service has only been announced for the Japanese market, it's not crazy to think of Sony doing something similar over here.

Rune Factory 3 is for DS!

(scan and info)

click the images to enlarge

Famitsu reports in its latest issue that Rune Factory 3 is being prepared for Japanese DS release some time this year. The game promises all the farming, adventuring, and romance aspects of past Rune Factory games, but adds in the ability to make main character Maisu transform into monsters once you've obtained a "Transformation Belt." When in monster form, you'll have access to a separate set of actions during battle, and be treated to new conversations while in town.

One example of a monster is the long-eared "Golden Moko Moko." When you're in Moko Moko form, one cute little girl who's apparently displeased with you otherwise, finds you cute!

Despite Maisu's ability to transform into a monster, the game still allows you to raise and bring monsters into battle. And for the first time, you'll also take certain plants into battle with you! These special plants emerge from "Active Seeds," and while details are unclear at present, they apparently play a major role in the game.

As for the more traditional Rune Factory elements, they're all back, but with some apparent changes.

Characters make use of new AI, with their daily movements around town driven by interests, goals, and relationships with other characters.

The farming aspect of the game has one obvious change. For various unspecified reasons, the only areas of the world that can grow plants are those that are underground and receive the protection of a special tree. Maisu's home is located in that tree, and his farm is located below. The inside of the tree is said to be very spacious, so you may end up spending quite some time in there.

With a Japanese release planned for 2009, it shouldn't come as a surprise to learn that Rune Factory 3 is pretty far along. The game is 80% complete according to Famitsu.
