Plants vs. Zombies In World of Warcraft

The new Peacebloom vs Ghouls quest can be found in the Hillsbrad Foothills, and is such an absurdly detailed recreation of PvZ (albeit with only 6 plants) that the whole thing must have been done with PopCap’s consent. Aww. A video of the level by RPS’s own eager commenter TotalBiscuit can be found beneath the jump.

You know, sweet as it is, this is exactly the kind of things that turns me off WoW. If I’m going to be sinking hundreds of hours into an imaginary world, I at least want the people taking my money to be taking their fiction seriously. But then, I’m a big ol’ grumpypot who liked Pathologic. What do I know?

TGS10 - Ninja Gaiden 3, Ni-Oh announced!

Team Ninja leader Yosuke Hayashi revealed at an event in Tokyo this evening the developer's next major projects, including a new Ninja Gaiden game for consoles and the revival of a game we know as Ni-Oh.

Hayashi said that the team responsible for the Dead or Alive and Ninja Gaiden series of games was already hard at work on the follow-up to Ninja Gaiden II—and its PlayStation 3 port, Ninja Gaiden 2 Sigma—showing off concept art for the game he referred to as Ninja Gaiden 3.

The concept image featured a close-up of a bloody Ryu Hayabusa, the reflection of a blank-looking face in the ninja's right eye.

That image was the extent of what the new, lean, Hayashi-lead Team Ninja was willing to show at a dinner in Ueno. No platforms or release dates were given. Hayashi said that we should expect to learn more about Ninja Gaiden 3 sometime next year.

After completing work on Metroid: Other M, Hayashi pointed to the team's next cross-company collaboration, this time sticking closer to home. Team Ninja will be finishing the development of a game called Ni-Oh, an action game originally being developed by Tecmo's corporate partner Koei.

We've only seen Ni-Oh, a game announced in 2005 as a PlayStation 3 exclusive, in pre-rendered cinematic form. Hayashi told us that development of Ni-Oh had been put on hold at Koei, but that Team Ninja was now taking over, working with Koei founder Kou Shibusawa on the project, switching gears from ninja-based action to something more samurai-centric.

Team Ninja didn't show anything new related to Ni-Oh.

The developer is currently hard at work developing a stereoscopic 3D version of its Dead or Alive fighting game series for the NIntendo 3DS.

CAPCOM AND SONY PICTURES ENTERTAINMENT JAPAN ANNOUNCE THE COPRODUCTION OF “RESIDENT EVIL: DAMNATION” IN 3D

Full-length CG Movie Sequel Based on the Hit Franchise Known as “Biohazard” in Japan and “Resident Evil” in the US To be Released in 2012

CAPCOM Co., Ltd. (Osaka, Japan -- Haruhiro Tsujimoto, President and COO; hereinafter
“CAPCOM”) and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Japan -- representative director: Masao Morita; hereinafter “SPEJ”) have announced the coproduction of “Resident Evil: Damnation”, a sequel to the full-length CG animation feature “Resident Evil: Degeneration” based upon the Resident Evil (known in Japan as BIOHAZARD) series of games.

While the predecessor “Resident Evil: Degeneration” had only a limited 2-week / 3-screen theatrical release in Japan, Box Office sales surpassed 40 million yen, and the home video release has shipped more than 1.6 million copies worldwide, making the film a global hit.

Since its initial release in 1996, the “Resident Evil” series of home video games has
established the “survival horror” genre and has shipped over 44 million units worldwide, continuing to captivate its fans as a powerful property. “Resident Evil 5”, which was released in 2009, shipped over 5.4 million units worldwide, recording the highest sales within the franchise.

The three “RESIDENT EVIL” live-action films previously released have collectively grossed US$ 380 million at the Box Office internationally, making it a mega hit franchise. “Resident Evil: Afterlife 3D” as known as “Biohazard 4: Afterlife”, which has just been released globally on September 10th, has become the Number One hit in Japan, the US, and other parts of the world during its opening weekend.

“Resident Evil: Damnation” will feature as its main character Leon S. Kennedy just like its predecessor. The film is currently in production, with plans for a terrifying 3D release in Japan in 2012.

A new worm hit the Internet!!! (10th Sept 2010)

Sep 10, 2010 2:14 pm

On Thursday, a new worm hit the Internet, and it’s been spreading by emailing the address books of infected users, according to McAfee Labs. By masquerading as a benign PDF, the worm looks something like this when it shows up in your inbox:

Subject: Here you have (or “Just for you”)

Body: This is The Document I told you about, you can find it

Here. [link]

Please check it and reply as soon as possible.

Cheers,

As you may have guessed, the URL doesn’t actually take you to a PDF, but instead to an executable with the extension .scr. While the domain linked to in these infected e-mails is no longer live, infected computers can still be spreading virus messages. When the virus is run, it installs itself as CSRSS.EXE in the Windows directory, then e-mails the contents of your address book. It also spreads through mapped drives, remote machines, and removable media. The virus then attempts to download files and delete security software, including virus protection?

What can you do to prevent the spread of this virus? First off, don’t click suspicious links in email, even if you know the sender. Second, have you updated your virus definitions lately? McAfee, Norton, and other security software companies have updated their definitions file to handle the “Here you have” worm.

Microsoft also offers free Security Essentials for Windows users, which helps protect against viruses, malware, and worms such as “Here you have”. If you’ve been infected, disconnect your machine from the Internet, install the latest version of an antivirus program on a removable drive, then use it to disinfect your machine.

Capcom wants Resident Evil 6 ASAP and DMC5?

Managing director Keiji Inafune tells Spanish gaming site the publisher is working to get survival horror sequel to market "lo antes possible," will tailor next Devil May Cry for Western audiences.

For Resident Evil 5, Capcom upped the speed of the series' zombie-like hordes. For Resident Evil 6, the publisher might be upping its own pace to match that of the series' maddened adversaries.

Speaking with Spanish gaming site 3D Juegos, Capcom managing director Keiji Inafune addressed current plans for a number of its familiar franchises. According to a GameSpot translation, when asked about Resident Evil 6, Inafune said Capcom wants to release the game as soon as possible in light of Resident Evil 5's great success. Though the developer quickly moved on to other subjects, he did tease that news about the next installment in the survival horror series could arrive soon.

Inafune also talked about the possibility for a Devil May Cry 5. He said that when development on the game starts, it will probably be designed to appeal more to Western audiences. While the series has done well in Japan, Inafune said that Devil May Cry franchise sales in North America and Europe haven't been especially high.

As for a new Onimusha game, Inafune's response no doubt included more laughter than fans of the series would have liked. The developer said that nobody ever asks him about the series except the Spanish gaming press. He then jokingly suggested that if there is a next episode in the series, it would surely be set in Spain.

News of Resident Evil 6 could arrive soon.

Epic Games show off the Unreal Engine 3 in the iOS

‘Epic Citadel,’ world’s First UE3-Powered iOS App, Now Available on App Store

Cary, NC, September 01, 2010 — CARY, N.C. – September 1, 2010 – Epic Games, Inc. today announced its “Epic Citadel” App is now available from the App Store. The app showcases the technical capabilities of Epic’s award-winning Unreal Engine 3 on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. In “Epic Citadel,” players navigate a fictional castle realm using simple controls and the innovative Multi-Touch user interface. “Epic Citadel” also features stunning visuals and special effects, with an environment inspired by “Project Sword,” Epic’s newest game.

“Project Sword” is the codename of the all-new action role-playing adventure game exclusively for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch developed by Epic’s critically acclaimed studio, Chair Entertainment, creators of the Xbox LIVE Arcade games of the year “Undertow” and “Shadow Complex.” Scheduled for release later this year, “Project Sword” will bring unrivaled visual fidelity and a highly accessible gameplay experience to the iOS platform.

“This is a testament to the sheer power of iOS devices as up until now, Unreal Engine 3 has typically been used to create high-end gaming experiences on game consoles and computers,” said Epic Games President Dr. Michael Capps. “And we’re not just keeping it to ourselves. We’re putting Unreal Engine 3 technology into the hands of game developers all over the world, and we can’t wait to see the apps they make next.”

A small team of Epic’s programmers, artists and testers created “Epic Citadel” in just eight weeks of development time. Unreal Engine 3 is scalable yet packed with the same tools hundreds of thousands of users work with to create games, simulations and animated content. Features include:

* Amazing visuals. “Epic Citadel” pushes the envelope for stunning visuals on iOS devices. Through the latest advances in Unreal Engine 3 technology, the application delivers unrivaled graphics and special effects that immerse players in the kingdom’s grounds.

* Bump offset mapping. Also known as parallax mapping or relief mapping, bump offset mapping enhances the visual appearance of stone walls and rocks providing intricate textures.

* Normal mapped architecture. Brings stunning detail to bricks and ground surfaces within the environment.

* Texture blending with painted weight maps. Refines nuances on roads and terrain, making them rich and lifelike.

* Global illumination. Unreal Engine 3’s built-in global illumination system, Unreal Lightmass, provides realistic lighting and shadows with minimal development resources.

* Dynamic specular lighting with texture masks. Helps create authentic cobblestone roads and vivid reflective marble surfaces, while lens flares and light coronas add dramatic emphasis when panning across light sources.

* Real-time reflections and animation. Environment mapping enables real-time reflections on objects such as the statue inside the cathedral. Dynamic movements of trees and banners are made possible through the use of vertex deformation and skeletal animation.

* Free tools. Epic’s Unreal Development Kit (UDK), available for free download at http://www.udk.com/download, ships with the same tools and technologies used to create Epic Citadel.

“Epic Citadel” is available for free from the App Store on iPad, Phone and iPod touch. For more information about “Epic Citadel,” visit http://www.epic-citadel.com.
