The attacks on PSN cost Sony lost.....
Guess how much money Sony lost in the PSN attack incident during April-May 2011? Sony has pegged the total cost to be around USD$170 million. Want to see in a real number? It is $170,000,000!
"Based on information currently available to Sony, our currently known costs associated with the unauthorized network access are estimated to be approximately 14 billion yen in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2012," Sony said today in an official earnings forecast statement.
As it stands at time of posting, that's exactly USD$171,203,043. There's no detailed breakdown of just how those costs are spread out - how much is down to estimates on the loss of business, direct costs of fixing stuff, etc - but hey, it all contributes to the same bottom line. And that's one painful bottom line.
Note that that while official, these are still estimates; a final figure on the total cost probably won't be known for some time.

Sony failed! Continue? Please insert coin (month)

From the PSN Update:
"Regarding the aim of the full restoration of PSN services by the 31st May : -
Restoration of Online Gamplay is the FIRST phase of the plan to restore the PSN."
PSN is back on May 3... May 6... and now May 31? End of May, over a month since PSN is down! Or did Sony mean May 31 of 2012? Sony, you are losing customers, loyal fans, and even developers. If I were game developer I'm going to change the plan on PlayStation now, such case could cause tons of losses indirectly! I feel like Sony is not take responsibility on the promise they made, fail to handle their own service well, that's really disappointed!

Xbox Live adding Paypal payment option!
The update will be distributed in six separate waves between May 19 and May 30 "to ensure a high quality deployment." Additionally, while not technically part of the automatic update, Avatar Kinect is listed for a May 27 arrival as a separate download.
This release will also introduce support for a Xbox Game Disc Format (XGD3) that will be used in future game titles releasing later in 2011. XGD3 allows for additional storage space on a game disc, and provides additional layers of copy protection.

SONY vs. Unknown Anonymous war continue!?

This week (May 8, 2011) lot of articles regarding the Sony PSN or related news floating around the net saying the PSN restoration delayed, Sony security outdated and more... But one of them was found from CNET news is about the hacker's next attack on Sony. According to CNET, A group of hackers says it is planning another wave of cyberattacks against Sony in retaliation for its handling of the PlayStation Network breach. It seems that anonymous hackers is not letting Sony peace at this moment.
The people involved plan to publicize all or some of the information they are able to copy from Sony's servers, which could include customer names, credit card numbers, and addresses, according to the source. The hackers claim they currently have access to some of Sony's servers.
Should the planned attack succeed, it would be the latest blow in a series of devastating security breaches of Sony's servers over the past month. The failure of Sony's server security has ignited investigations by the FBI, the Department of Justice, Congress, and the New York State Attorney General, a well as data security and privacy authorities in the U.K., Canada, and Taiwan.
Sony says it doesn't know who orchestrated what it's calling a "highly sophisticated, planned" attack, but it has dropped hints that the group Anonymous is involved. Kazuo Hirai, chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment, told a Congressional subcommittee in a letter yesterday that the intruders on its servers planted a file named "Anonymous" containing the statement "We are Legion," part of the group's tagline.
Anonymous issued a statement yesterday denying it was involved in the PSN breach. "While we are a distributed and decentralized group, our 'leadership' does not condone credit card theft," the statement said.
Now looks like the same group of hackers that was able to break in the PSN servers is planning to hit back against Sony. They are not the official "Anonymous" group, but still naming "Anonymous", that's what we can call them now.
Good luck Sony.

Xbox LIVE and other online users beware!
As you know Sony PSN encounter a big intrusion late of April 2011 (20 Apr) caused the network down for over a week and many other problems. Search it if you are interested, I'm lazy to describe it here.
After a week of the PSN case, Xbox LIVE seems getting attack too as the video mention above. But just want to remind all gamers again, sometimes users' information being used by others not because the hackers hacked the accounts, it's because the users give their information to the unknown people such as some email from the fake banks, fake companies that will ask you reply immediately with your password, address, "click here to submit"... etc. So do not response any emails from the unknown senders, otherwise it's hard to tell you how worse the things can happen afterwards.

Sony wants tablet too! S1 and S2 announced.
After Apple successfully made their iPad popular, many other brands are rushing to product a "similar thing" hope to grab some attention from the markets. Now it is Sony's turn, they just announced Sony Tablet S1 and S2 as in the picture above that delivers the perfect (perfect means it is not perfect) combination of hardware, content and network with seamless usability for a high-quality, engaging entertainment experience.
Well, from my view, the only thing to highlight is "Through PlayStation®Suite, users can immerse themselves in high quality first generation PlayStation® titles...", so it can only run those PS games?
Anyway, if you're interested with these things, you find out all details over here

More female clothes get ripped soon
Today's topic is about clothes ripping / clothes torn / clothing damage or whatever system it call on the female characters. About 10 years ago, female character design has become one of the "selling point" of a video games (of cause not all games), character designers tried hard to perfect female body, big boobs, big ass, and later jiggling boobs all around the games especially on action and fighting games. Last time someone from Gamespot forum mentioned most female characters are much like a hooker "One of the ways that hook your money".

Left = Aya from The 3rd Birthday, right = Nina from Death by Degree
Nina from Death by Degree doesn't consider have the clothes damage system, because her clothes ripped after some fighting scenes that trigger when you proceed to certain area, but the idea is already there.
Previously Square Enix's The 3rd Birthday is a best known game that has this clothes ripping system. After Aya (the character you control) get certain amount of damage during the battle her costume can get ripped until few little clothes left on her body.
See all her costumes before and after ripped
Beside this, many games like Queen's Blades, Ikki Tousen for PSP have it as well, and seems this system liked by many players from Asian (not sure how about Western gamers because I didn't get much feedback from my research, leave me your opinion would be great)

One of a popular fighting games, The King of Fighters has the "minor" clothes ripping in the KoF' 95 when you beat Yuri or King with a special move (Art of Fighting has it too?). This idea has been removed since KoF' 96 all the way to the King of Fighters XIII released in 2010, the female's "clothes ripping" comes back.
Here's the video of Iori super combo'd on King and the last hit did exactly like tearing her clothes off.
Alright, it wasn't a big deal actually, but I think people will curious in the future made of clothes ripping, and it's just in my view of the market's "requirement" in this and even next generation gaming, whether clothes ripping "system" or not, this kind of scenes are going to be common and normal. Lets just wait and see how games creators fulfill players desire.

Red-Ringed Xbox 360 execute by shooting
Ben Strauss sends in these pics of the celebratory firing squad that both wrapped up another year at a local college near Kansas City and bid adieu to a red-ringed Xbox 360.
Here's the story straight from Stauss:
"- I was at the shooting range yesterday with my friends and my brothers. We had decided on taking our rifles out for a long needed range day when we happened upon a couple of students that were celebrating the end of the semester at a local college where I live.
Happens they had an Xbox 360 that decided to RROD on them during the semester, so they decided to make use of the hardware the best way they knew how. My buddies and I offered to help them solve their "problem." -"
Pictured in the firing squad are students Brett Babcock, Luke Borst and Stuart Washington. The guys holding the M4 type rifles are Stauss' friends and his younger brother.

Today in History - Xbox

Birthday of Microsoft's Xbox!
The Xbox was released on November 15, 2001 in North America, February 22, 2002 in Japan, and March 14, 2002 in Australia and Europe. It is the predecessor to Microsoft's Xbox 360 console, and discontinued in late 2006.
History:
The console was Microsoft's first product that ventured into the video game console market, after having collaborated with Sega in porting Windows CE to the Dreamcast console. The Xbox first edition was initially developed by a small Microsoft team that included game developer Seamus Blackley. Microsoft repeatedly delayed the console, which was first mentioned in late 1999 during interviews with then-Microsoft CEO Bill Gates. Gates stated that a gaming/multimedia device was essential for multimedia convergence in the new times, confirmed by Microsoft with a press release. When Bill Gates unveiled the Xbox at the Game Developers Conference in 2000, audiences were dazzled by the console's technology. At the time of Gates' announcement, Sega's Dreamcast was diminishing and Sony's PlayStation 2 was just hitting the streets in Japan.
Concentrating on making a big splash in Japan, Microsoft delayed its European launch, though Europe later proved to be the more receptive market. Two of the original members of the Xbox team, Seamus Blackley and Kevin Bachus, left the company early on. The other founding members, Otto Berkes and Ted Hase, are still with Microsoft, but no longer working on the Xbox project.
Some of Microsoft's plans proved effective. In preparation for its launch, Microsoft acquired Bungie and used Halo: Combat Evolved as its launch title. At the time, Goldeneye 007, for Nintendo 64, had been one of the few hit FPS games to appear on a console, some of other ones being Perfect Dark and Medal of Honor. The Bungie acquisition proved itself, giving Microsoft a good application to drive its sales. In 2002, Microsoft overtook Nintendo to capture the second place slot in consoles sold in North America.
Popular launch games for the console included Dead or Alive 3, Amped: Freestyle Snowboarding, Halo: Combat Evolved, Fuzion Frenzy and Project Gotham Racing.
The name for the Xbox was originally the DirectX box as it came from a group of Microsoft DirectX developers, but later changed to Xbox after focus testing. The marketing team apparently "created this whole, long list of better names for the machine", former Microsoft VP of game publishing Ed Fries said in a interview with Gamasutra.

PSN To Offer Comics for PSP (Well, Manga)
Sony have announced today that, later this year, the Japanese PlayStation Store will begin offering comics, which can be downloaded by PSP owners.
There's no word yet on a firm release date, or a price, or on which comics/manga will lead the charge, just a brief mention that they'll be compatible with all models of the PSP, and that users will be able to download them from the PlayStation Store.
While this service has only been announced for the Japanese market, it's not crazy to think of Sony doing something similar over here.
