Capcom Starts Mobile Game Business Operations in Indonesia

Mobile game business will use an alliance with Love Indonesia to distribute games for feature phones and smartphones

Capcom has announced that full-scale mobile game operations using Capcom's lineup of popular games will begin in Indonesia.

Indonesia has more than 240 million SIM cards in use and is estimated to have a cell phone penetration rate of more than 100%. Although smartphones account for only about 10% of all cell phones in Indonesia, sales of smartphones in 2012 are expected to be approximately 70% higher than in 2011 as carriers introduce lower-priced models.

As part of measures to strengthen our Online Games business, Capcom established a software development base in Taiwan in July 2012. Capcom now decides to start operations in Indonesia, one of the most attractive markets in Asia, and plans to continue expanding its operations in this region. Love Indonesia operates the "Love Indonesia" portal site which provides a broad range of information for individuals, extending from local news to restaurants and movies, important phone numbers, transportation and other subjects. Love Indonesia plans to distribute 19 games from Capcom, beginning with Java game for feature phones "Street Fighter". In view of the rapid growth of Indonesia's smartphone market, plans call for distributing Android games, too. Two Android games are to be introduced in the current fiscal year with the Android lineup increasing to 10 titles in the next fiscal year. In the future, operations are also expected to include the distribution of social games in Indonesia and other countries in Southeast Asia.

Capcom will continue to target opportunities in the rapidly growing market for online games. The goal is to raise annual sales from online content (mobile, PC online, and downloads for consumers) to 30 billion yen by the fiscal year ending in March 2015. Furthermore, Capcom plans to use the start of operations in Indonesia as first step for more growth of the Online Games business in Asia.

Onimusha Soul for PC browser and smartphone

Capcom has just announced Onimusha Soul, a new title of Onimusha series is coming on PC browser and smartphone. Release date for PC browser is June 28, 2012; and for smartphone will be on Autumn 2012 as well.

"Onimusha" is a series of samurai survival action game. Set in the Warring States period of Japan, the games require young swordsmen to advance while slaying enemies and solving mysteries. The first title was "Onimusha", a game for the PlayStation®2 that made its debut in 2001 and became the first million seller. Cumulative sales of all "Onimusha" titles were 7.9 million units at the end of December 2011, making this one of Capcom's most successful series of games. In recent years, the pachislo versions of "Onimusha 3" and "Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams" have also become big hits.

"Onimusha Soul" is a Sengoku simulation RPG based on the characters that appear in "Onimusha" series. Each player is a daimyo (feudal lord) of one of the warring states. Players use their powers to achieve the growth of their respective states and train military commanders as they fight with other players. "Onimusha Soul" also allows players to enjoy an original story.

The game is easy to play as it offers two unique advantages of browser games. There is no need to download or install the game data. In addition, the game features an unprecedented level of community and social elements. For example, players can be grouped separately based on Japan's 47 prefectures to enjoy a variety of cooperative game playing or fight players in other prefectures. Furthermore, the development engine uses "Unity 3D" to generate graphics that are far more attractive than the images of conventional browser games. Overall, "Onimusha Soul" was created to appeal to a broad spectrum of game players. Capcom plans to distribute this title for use on PCs and smartphones.

Capcom is targeting many opportunities in the rapidly expanding market for online games. The goal is to increase sales of online content (mobile, PC online and downloads for consumer games) to 30 billion yen in the fiscal year ending March 2015.
Capcom's "Monster Hunter Frontier Online", which is a PC online game, is performing consistently well. In addition, sales from downloadable contents in the Consumer Online Games business and from social and other games in the Mobile Contents business continue to grow.

By entering the browser game market, Capcom plans to continue to expand in the growing market for online games through the use of many methods to supply a diverse lineup of content.

My iOS games update 12/16/11

One of the titles within my wish list has a BIG DISCOUNT! "RPG - Symphony of Eternity" now selling $0.99, dropped from $8.99!

This game was releaseed in Japanese and recently updated with English support. Overall gameplay similar to old Final Fantasy (1-6), the enemy encounter system is not random, you can actually see the enemy icon in the map, so you can evade the monster if you don't want to fight. I did try it on the old iPhone (3G) and it works well, unlike many new apps that didn't support old generation iPhones. It's worth to get it at $0.99 for gamers who like RPG, probably this discount is just for the coming Christmas.

Check out Symphony of Eternity on iTunes.

Additionally, another popular title that I like is Plants vs. Zombies, it's selling at $0.99 as well!

My iOS games update 6/23/11

Today is Sonic's 20th Anniversary! If you search through the net, many celebrations can be found, and one of them from Japan is placed here

Besides, I noticed a new title released in the iTunes App Store by Sega is Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing at offered price $1.99 for the next two days! According to the official notes, the price will revert to $4.99 after the offer period. But seems like this game couldn't run well for iPhone 3G or lower spec device and it didn't mention in the description, so users please take note.

Angry Birds Season has a new update again, the Summer Pignic episode. The green pigs are always funnier than the monkeys in Angry Birds Rio :p

Devil May Cry refrain also has its update in this month, with the new game mode "HEAVEN or HELL" which lets you kill enemy or be killed with a single hit!

Some other titles from Capcom like Street Fighter IV, Resident Evil Mercenaries VS, Dead Rising Mobile are dropping the price to $0.99 for limited time offer too.

Chaos Rings Omega is now available

Chaos Rings Omega was revealed in last month and now had released! You can now find it on iPhone App Store.

Chaos Rings Omega is the latest installment in the globally successful Chaos Rings RPG series. Players can enjoy gorgeous 3D graphics, smooth animations, classic RPG game play, a refined user interface and a rich story linked with the previously released Chaos Rings on their iPhone, iPod touch.

The story is based on the Arc Arena life-or-death tournament. This fight to the death takes places on Earth, 10,000 years before the events of the previous game. As the youthful and daring Veig, the player experiences first-hand battles connected to the previous game, the tragedies that arose because of them and a wondrous story that spans 10,000 years.

Personally, I have to say Square-Enix products have good quality, however this one is costing $11.99... might be little over than it should.
