Fantasy Earth Zero Tower Defense

Here I'm gonna introduce a tower defense on Facebook, the "Fantasy Earth Zero Tower Defense".

Fantasy Earth Zero ファンタジーアース ゼロ is a MMO game developed by Fenix Soft, released in year 2006 by Square-Enix. However, few months after release, Square Enix canceled the game because of severe lack of demand. The publishing rights to the game were later bought by Gamepot, where the game has enjoyed much greater success as they dropped the subscription based element present when under Square Enix's PlayOnline service, and became a Free to Play game.

US players were finally able to get in on the action when Square Enix and Gamepot USA announced a partnership to deliver this free to play MMOG - Fantasy Earth Zero on January 12, 2010 and it was officially launched in US on May 18, 2010.

Early of January 2011, Gamepot USA announced the new Fantasy Earth Zero Tower Defence game for Facebook. Like common tower defense, you win the game by defending the castle, and killing all enemies charging the castle. You will lose if your castle's HP reduced to 0 by the enemies.

The graphic is quite nice with the good sound effect, and the animation is smooth and look real comparing to other Facebook's games. Some buildings in the can be used for summoning special units, but so far the units you can build are too little, just wondering they will be adding more in the future. I'm just started the game, and I don't have any friends playing it, so my friend list is 0. Add me if you look for companions of this game.

"I'm now 76 years old. I may not live long enough to see Dragon Quest VI unless someone takes action soon." - Edith Jeter, Puyallup, WA

In year 1996, Enix America closed its doors, leaving many RPG fans to wonder what would become of SNES titles available in Japan but not yet in the U.S., like Dragon Quest VI.

Finally Dragon Quest VI has a US release on February 14, 2011. But it's too late... Racketboy forumer Urban Champion-e recently came across the NP article while flipping through an old issue he found at his parent's house, saw the elderly gamer's note, and wondered if she would finally get to play the game 15 years later.

Unfortunately, after a search on Google, he found that Edith had passed away on January 3rd ("peacefully at her home"), at the age of 91. Her obituary tells us:

"Edith enjoyed reading, playing video games, and was an author of a family genealogy book that she proudly distributed to her family.

Surviving are her children, John Hillstrom (Cindy) of Puyallup, Marge Workman (Dick) of Port Orchard, brothers Gene of Port Orchard, Bob (Leslie) of Port Orchard, Richie of Auburn and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

As Edith would say, 'Think Beautiful'."

A couple (incomplete) fan translations for the original of Dragon Quest VI exist, but it's unlikely Edith ever grabbed the ROM, patched it, and ran it in an emulator.

And while it's terribly unfortunate Square Enix, Nintendo, and 8-4 weren't able to get this English release for Dragon Quest VI out and into Edith's hands before she departed, it's heartwarming to read some of the messages fellow gamers have on this online memorial:

Your letter in Nintendo Power Volume 82 was the first thing I thought of when I heard DQ6 was finally coming to America. I never knew you, but you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers." - Joshua Kanary, Mentor, Ohio

"Hearing this story has touched my heart. I wish I could've met this fellow video game lover in life. As a fellow gaming girl I'm sure I would've enjoyed speaking to Edith. I pre-ordered a copy of Dragon Quest VI and will now have her wish on my mind when I hear the game's music start its chorus." - Emma Coppedge, Dallas, Texas

"May your gaming in the hereafter be fruitful." - Alex Huber, New Jersey

"She is known in the video game world as the 76 year-old-lady who wanted a release of DQ6. I am saddened, since a remake of this game will be released on 2/14, and I was tuly hoping she would be here to play it with us all. Godspeed to you — may the Lord almighty have a special copy waiting for you in his kingdom!" - Steve Raineault, Newport, New Hampshire

Angry Birds Rio 2011!

It's a bit late, but still want to share this, the Angry Birds Rio! Rovio and 20th Century Fox are proud to announce unique partnership uniting Angry Birds with summer animated feature film Rio.

From the makers of the hit Ice Age series, Rio is a comedy-adventure about taking a walk on the wild side. Blu is a domesticated Macaw who never learned to fly, living a comfortable life with his owner and best friend Linda in the small town of Moose Lake, Minnesota. Blu and Linda think he’s the last of his kind, but when they learn about another Macaw who lives in Rio de Janeiro, they head to the faraway and exotic land to find Jewel, Blu’s female counterpart.

Not long after they arrive, Blu and Jewel are kidnapped by a group of bungling animal smugglers. With the help of street smart Jewel, and a group of wise-cracking and smooth-talking city birds, Blu escapes. Now, with his new friends by his side, Blu will have to find the courage to learn to fly, thwart the kidnappers who are hot on their trail, and return to Linda, the best friend a bird ever had.

In Angry Birds Rio, the original Angry Birds are kidnapped and taken to the magical city of Rio, where they eventually escape their captors and set out to to save their friends, Blu and Jewel – two rare macaws and the stars of the upcoming Fox motion picture, Rio. Angry Birds Rio will pair the physics-based gameplay of the original game with unique twists based on the highly-anticipated film.

Angry Birds Rio will launch with 45 dedicated levels and will regularly add new levels via app updates. The game will be available for download on smart phones and tablets worldwide.

Capcom will surprise gamers twice in 2011

It's January, typically gaming's slow month. But Capcom, best known for Street Fighter and Resident Evil, is hard at work on two big time original games.

According to Jun Takeuchi (竹内 潤), producer for Resident Evil 5, Lost Planet (and more...) apparently stated in the latest issue of Japanese game magazine Famitsu, "We have two big original titles for 2011 that we haven't revealed yet."

He also promises that players will be surprised twice, and a remark that could point to a summer reveal for the games and not a release date per se.

I like the "No Signal" idea in the end of the trailer, why didn't follow up with a creepy face on the screen?

Nintendo 3DS won't have achievement feature.

When the Nintendo teams create their games, they don't tell you how to play their game in order to achieve some kind of mythical reward.

Trinen said, explaining his view of why Nintendo's top creators have stayed off the Achievement bandwagon. "Basically, the way the games are designed is they're designed for you to explore the game yourself and have this sense of discovery," he said. "To that end, I think that when you look specifically at games from EAD [the group long led by Mario and Donkey Kong creator Shigeru Miyamoto] and a lot of other games that Nintendo has developed a well, there are things you can do in the game that will result in some sort of reward or unexpected surprise. In my mind, that really encourages the sense of exploration rather than the sense of 'If I do that, I'm going to get some sort of artificial point or score that's going to make me feel better that I got this.' And that, to me, is I think more compelling."

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D trailer and updates!

Check out this latest release trailer!

Overall looks cool, so far only 4 characters known are playable (will add more?). This title will take advantage of the Nintendo 3DS WiFi Connectivity, allowing players from around the world to join forces in co-op gameplay, it could have a lot of fun and replay value. For my opinion it's very worth to get it.

Angry Birds animated series is announced

Angry Birds developer Rovio announced a marketing deal for "Angry Birds" last year, when word first surfaced of interest from Hollywood for either a big-screen movie or a TV series, according to CEO Mikael Hed.

Speaking to British TV industry site C21media (as reported by The New York Post), Hed said the company has been looking at “broadcast content” based around the game for a while now, and that the company is finally ready to “move into production” on an animated series for TV or the web.

Rovio has been shopping the Angry Birds license to various production studios and representation agencies since last August, though no specific content deals have been announced.

The move would make the popular title, which has been downloaded over 50 million times since its debut on iOS in late 2009, the first original mobile property to be adapted for other mass media. The title is also available on Android phones and the new Mac App Store, among other app platforms.

Mattel unveiled an Angry Birds board game at the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this month, complete with a spring-loaded slingshot to launch plastic birds at constructed pig fortresses. The game is due in stores for $15 this May.

Rovio also sells Angry Birds branded plush toys and iPhone cases through their online store.

Angry Birds publisher Chillingo was recently purchased by Electronic Arts, though the deal did not include licensing rights to the Angry Birds property or publishing rights to future games.

Devil May Cry 4 Refrain for iPhone!

Capcom's summoning one of their biggest demons to the App Store, the Devil May Cry 4 Refrain!

This 3D action game will follow the same plot as the console game, with players controlling Nero instead of series regular Dante. Nero has guns, a big sword, and a demon hand that can be used for grab attacks. You can choose whether you want the guns and sword to be combined into one attack button, or two.

Nero has 10 levels to explore, which are laid out in a maze-like series of rooms. A map in the corner lets you know which way to go, and at the end of one stage we encountered a huge hellhound serving as the main boss.

Like in the console games, Nero will absorb red orbs from the enemies he kills, allowing you to upgrade and unlock new attacks. The goal with these new attacks, the developer told us, is to maintain the "cool feeling" of linking combos even with a simplified control scheme.

Click this preview gameplay:

The game will be released later in January 2011 with the price at $6.99.

Partial unlockables in the games of 3DS need "Game Coins"

On the official Japanese Nintendo 3DS website, Nintendo have highlighted a new feature called "Game Coins". On the top screen when browsing the home menu two different stats appear, the first is the amount of steps you have walked that day which then fades away to reveal the amount of Game Coins you currently have.

Game Coins are tied in with the pedometer feature of the Nintendo 3DS, and it appears that Game Coins are accumulated depending on the amount of steps you take. Nintendo have revealed that these Game Coins can be spent to unlock new features in compatible games, if that's the case then this new system is like a built-in PokéWalker where the more you walk, the more you can unlock.

Monster Hunter series might gonna move platform

“The 3DS is releasing, too, so I think the right time to switch [Monster Hunter] to new hardware is coming as well,” Tsujimoto told Gemaga, in their recent December 27th issue, when asked about his hopes for 2011. He goes on to say that new hardware in general will make 2011 an exciting year for business."
- Monster Hunter series producer, Ryozo Tsujimoto

Tsujimoto’s comment shouldn’t come as a surprise. While Monster Hunter is typically at home on the PSP in Japan, Capcom have spent a considerable amount of time and resources on expanding the series’ audience this past year. It’s only natural to want to expand to new hardware as it becomes available.

We wouldn’t recommend interpreting this as a 3DS confirmation just yet, however. Clearly, Capcom are thinking about moving the series to newer platforms, but Tsujimoto’s quote doesn’t outright confirm what system(s). We expect to see Monster Hunter games across a range of platforms as Capcom continue to market the brand to different audiences in Japan.

Red-Ringed Xbox 360 execute by shooting

Ben Strauss sends in these pics of the celebratory firing squad that both wrapped up another year at a local college near Kansas City and bid adieu to a red-ringed Xbox 360.

Here's the story straight from Stauss:

"- I was at the shooting range yesterday with my friends and my brothers. We had decided on taking our rifles out for a long needed range day when we happened upon a couple of students that were celebrating the end of the semester at a local college where I live.

Happens they had an Xbox 360 that decided to RROD on them during the semester, so they decided to make use of the hardware the best way they knew how. My buddies and I offered to help them solve their "problem." -"

Pictured in the firing squad are students Brett Babcock, Luke Borst and Stuart Washington. The guys holding the M4 type rifles are Stauss' friends and his younger brother.
